Scotts Valley K9 sniffs out hundreds of drug items in couple’s car

A Scotts Valley Police K9 busted a couple in possession of hundreds of drug items.

Scotts Valley Police said Tuesday night they were on the lookout for two fugitives in a U-Haul van that had escaped custody in Palo Alto. Officers spotted a van matching the description and conducted a vehicle stop for a mechanical violation.

Officers pulled over Greg and Cathleen Spencer and realized they were not the wanted fugitives. However, K9 Atlas picked up a strong scent around the van. During a search officers found hundreds of items of drug paraphernalia inside the U-Haul. Black tar heroin, powder heroin, powder cocaine, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine were also found spread inside the van.

Both Cathleen and Greg Spencer were arrested on various charges including conspiracy, possession of controlled substance with the intent to distribute, providing false identification to a peace officer and an outstanding warrant.
