Salinas man sentenced for attempted murder

A Salinas man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder.

According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, on April 15, 2017, 36-year-old Roberto Bravo shot at two people after a chase. A father and son were chasing Bravo after they saw him tampering with a construction truck that belonged to one of their family members.

Bravo had tried to burglarize the same truck two times in several weeks. A neighbor’s surveillance camera also captured him stealing tools from the work truck a few weeks prior. On the night of the 15th, Bravo was then caught tampering with the truck again. He got into his car to leave and that’s when the chase began.

The father and son called police as they were following Bravo hoping officers would catch him and recover the stolen property.

However, during the chase, Bravo pulled over, got out of his car and shot at the two victims. Bravo fired six to seven rounds at their car while they were inside. Three bullets hit the front and hood of their car. No one was hurt.

Officers later found Bravo at his home and he later admitted to shooting at the two victims. Bravo also led police to where he had buried the gun in his backyard.

At the time, Bravo also wasn’t supposed to have firearms because of prior misdemeanor domestic violence convictions.

Bravo pled no contest to attempted murder and assault with a semiautomatic firearm on October 4,2017.
