Launch ramp closed due to high levels of toxins at Pinto Lake
High levels of toxins have been found in the water at Pinto Lake.
According to the City of Watsonville, the launch ramp and dock at Pinto Lake City Park will be closed for public health and safety reasons.
“This is due to a high level of toxicity in the scum layer that has accumulated (21ppb) near the dock area. It is expected that the cyanobacteria will naturally die off over time,” said city officials.
The city said it will continue to take water samples and monitor the lake this week. It won’t be reopened until the lake is deemed safe for the public.
