Central Coast reacts to President Trump’s one year in office

It’s been one year since President Trump was voted into office.
KION spoke with some Central Coast politicians who are giving their opinions on the president’s first year.
It’s no surprise there are still differing opinions. When we spoke with both parties, some focused on accomplishments, others focused on what still needs to happen.
“The leadership, I want him to continue to do what he’s doing, he ran on some campaign promises and he’s working very hard to get them done,” says Rob Bernosky.
“Well we’ve seen a lack of leadership and the leadership we have seen is concerning,” says Alan Haffa.
Two parties. Of course, two very different opinions.
Vice chair of the California Republican party Rob Bernosky says he feels the president is doing a great job at putting America first.
“He’s done some wonderful things for the economy, we have unemployment at an all time low we have 117 million new jobs created, ya know industries still remain low and we have billions and billions of dollars being invested in the United States by businesses.”
While the Chair for the Monterey County Democratic Party Alan Haffa says in many ways he sees this past year as one of lost opportunities.
“We’ve seen him say that he’s going to improve the health care plan, in fact his plan would have taken away healthcare for millions of Americans. Locally here Monterey county we have many immigrants that are integral into our communities and into the work we do, he’s threatened them.”
Many know that President Trump has a strong social media presence. While Bernosky says this is the way for the President to reach Americans directly, Haffa says it’s a dangerous road.
“Through his new methods of social media, and tweeting, at least the public knows what he’s doing, how he’s doing it, what his opinion is, what he wants the others to do. And this is a new way of doing things, it’s transparent,” says Bernosky.
Haffa said, “When you are tweeting out in the middle of the night, in ways that are not consistent, it sends the wrong message and it really puts the world and the United States at risk.”
Today President Trump sent out a tweet thanking everyone who voted for him calling the electoral college win a “landslide.”
