Halloween tips for trick-or-treaters from Salinas Police Department

This is a scary time for pedestrians on the streets of Salinas, with two hit and runs just last week alone. But with Halloween on Tuesday, trick-or-treaters and party-goers will be out walking around and Salinas police want to ensure everyone has a safe holiday.

For those going to Halloween parties, police encourage people make a plan ahead of time and have a sober driver. They said it’s not just your life you’re putting in danger, but others as well. There will be extra patrols on the roadways. As for parents, there are a few things you can do to keep your child safe this holiday as well.

“Young kids need to be with an adult first of all, carry a flashlight with you because you’re going to come across a dark places. Wear illuminating clothing and don’t cross in the middle of the street. Cross at intersections that are well lit so people are able to see you,” said SPD Sergeant Gerry Ross.

Another tip is to choose safe neighborhoods to trick or treat in and check your kids candy once safely back at home.
