“Guitars not Guns” forms chapter in San Benito County
San Benito County is the latest on the list to declare an official chapter of “Guitars not Guns.”
The group provides guitars and lessons to foster children and at-risk youth in a classroom setting, as an alternative to violence.
Thanks to the success of the pilot program over the summer, program administrators applied to become an official chapter serving San Benito County.
Brand new acoustic guitars were donated by the Guitars Not Guns Monterey County Chapter and a local donor – and classes were taught by four vetted guitar teachers.
“When I was approached about the idea to start a nonprofit chapter of Guitars Not Guns in San Benito County, I immediately volunteered to serve as treasurer to help facilitate the formation of the group. I understand the Monterey County chapter won a statewide reward for its success as a nonprofit, and this community guitar class program for kids ages 8-18-years-old will benefit my constituents, their families and kids everywhere in our county eventually,” says Jaime De La Cruz, Chairman, San Benito County Board of Supervisors, District 5.
