City of Monterey seeks input on allowing dogs in parks

Officials with the City of Monterey want to hear from the community about their thoughts on opening Monterey parks to dogs on leashes.

The Community Services Department says all residents are encouraged to participate in the short survey.

As part of the 2016 Parks and Recreation Master Plan, it was determined that, “dogs are an integral part of the Monterey community, and should be provided reasonable access to City parks, including on-leash and off-leash areas throughout the City.”

Officials say the public’s participation in the survey will help them make Monterey parks more welcoming to residents, visitors and dogs, while maintaining safety and cleanliness for all.

The results of the survey are scheduled to be presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission at their regular November 16th meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 580 Pacific Street in Monterey.

“Completing the survey takes just minutes and is vital to learning about what the community wants in their parks,” said Community Services Director Kim Bui-Burton.
