CSUMB investigating two rape cases
CSUMB has issued another Timely Warning Bulletin after a male student is accused of two rapes and stalking.
On Tuesday, September 19 at 10:14 and 11:10 p.m., the Clery Compliance Officer received two reports from Campus Security Authorities of a rape that occurred in a residence hall between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and midnight on September 18. A student reported she was raped by a male student.
On Tuesday, October 3rd at 9:00 a.m., the Title IX Office received a report of a rape that occurred in a residence hall at 3:00 a.m. on September 22nd. A student reported she was raped by a male student. The suspect, Julian Espinoza, is the same individual described in the previous Timely Warning issued last month.
Additionally, on Tuesday, October 3 at 5:00 p.m., the Title IX Office received a report from a second student that the same male student has stalked her via tele-communication between September 2 and September 15th .
The University says it has been prompt and immediate in its actions to maintain the safety of the students as a priority and an investigation through the campus is underway.
He is described as a male of 20+ years, standing at 6-feet with black hair and a “slender” physique. His pattern of behavior is to meet people through normal University activities where initial interactions are friendly, only to attempt to coerce them to a private residential setting, use intimidating language, and engage in nonconsensual sex and physical acts that result in contusions to the body.
As of now, Espinoza has not been charged with anything.
If you see this person on-campus, you are asked to report it immediately to the University Police Department by dialing (831) 655-0268. Be prepared to give his location.
Also, officials say to trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe in any situation, go with your gut and do what you can to get out of the situation and call 9-1-1.
