City of Gonzales appoints new Chief of Police

The City of Gonzales has announced the appointment of Keith Wise as the new Chief of Police.

Keith Wise has been serving as the Interim Chief since April 2016, and before to that, he served as the Acting Chief of Police several times during the past 10 years.

He has a total of 31 years of law enforcement experience, 25 years being with the City of Gonzales.

Wise started his career with the City in 1992. He was promoted to Corporal in 1994, Sergeant in 1997, and Deputy Police Chief in 2014. Prior to coming to the City of Gonzales, he served as Police Officer and Sergeant for the San Juan Bautista Police Department.

The city says, “Over the past 25 years, Wise has served the Department and Community admirably, and has seen and been part of many changes to improve the Department and service to the Community.”

He takes over a Department of 13 sworn Officers and 3 civilian positions. He is committed to the legacy left by the Chiefs before him, to continue the ongoing improvement of the Department and service to the community. He is looking forward to continuing the work underway, and to work with the City Manager, City Council, Community and others, to share his vision, ideas, and initiatives; and engage in dialogue about the short and long term vision for the Department.
