2.6 quake strikes near Soledad

UPDATE: 9/22/2017 4:49 p.m. A magnitude 2.6 earthquake struck South Monterey County Friday afternoon.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey the quake hit 13 miles north east of Soledad around 4:17 p.m. At the same time USGS also reported another 3.9 quake occurred just 8 miles southwest of Ferndale, in Northern California.

Northern California has experienced three earthquakes Friday all within the Ferndale region. The smallest quake was a 3.3 and the strongest was a magnitude 5.7.

A magnitude 5.7 and 3.3 earthquake are the latest in a string of quakes along the California coast.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the 5.7 quake struck 126 miles off the coast of Ferndale in Northern California around 12:50 p.m. Friday.

Around 10 a.m. USGS reported a 3.3 quake much closer to the coast in the same area.

The National Weather Service does not expect a Tsunami warning to be issued.
