Southern California inmates record escape and travel through Santa Cruz
A video of three inmates escaping from an Orange County jail was released today.
Adam Hossein Nayeri, Johnathan Tieu and Bac Duong broke out of the Men’s Central Jail in Santa Ana in January of 2016.
The 10 minute long video shows the trio removing a grate in a sleeping area and making their way through the tunnels of the plumbing system.
“A lot of people like to credit us with some Houdini escape act, all in eight minutes flat,” said Nayeri in the video, which was recorded on a contraband cell phone.
The video also documents a road trip to Santa Cruz and then San Francisco. While in San Francsico, selfies were snapped and a taxi driver was kidnapped.
Authorities said that Nayeru and Duong argued about whether or not to kill the taxi driver, but Nayeri says that the claim is false.
In the video Nayeri says that “we are so grateful this man decided to help us. This man is truly a hero.”
The taxi driver was found unharmed and all three escaped inmates were taken back into custody eight days after the breakout.
The video is part of an ongoing investigation into the breakout, according to a statement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
