Monkey riding sheep dog is new act at California Rodeo Salinas
One of the new acts this year at the California Rodeo Salinas will feature the smallest cowboy ever. Whiplash is a Capuchin Monkey who has been riding since he was two years old. He travels the country, herding Barbados sheep with his partner in crime, Boogie the border collie. This is a new act this year at the rodeo this year.
“When you interview these cowboys they have traveling partners, guys they go with. My traveling partner is two dogs and a monkey. Whip has been doing this for 25 years. Now Boogie — all he cares about is the sheep he is going to herd. The monkey is just along for the ride,” said Handler Kenny Petet.
When Whiplash isn’t herding sheep, he likes to hang from the rafters at his home in Texas. Whiplash and Boogie will be performing the next four days at the Salinas Sports Complex. The California Rodeo begins tonight at 6:00 p.m.
