Santa Cruz: Man stabbed and robbed on Chestnut Street

According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, a 25-year-old man was stabbed and robbed by two acquaintances for $500.

The incident occurred Tuesday, July 11 near Chestnut Street and Neary Lagoon in Santa Cruz.

The victim said 27-year-old Darren Cocroft and 34-year-old Frederick Stanley demanded he give them money.

The victim said Stanley pulled out a dagger and held it to his throat. The suspects threatened to kill him if he did not hand over his cash. The victim sustained a cut to his hand while struggling to fight off the two suspects.

Santa Cruz police sergeant Crofts found Stanley with the stolen cash. Police were also able to recover the discarded knife and were in search of Cocroft. Cocroft eventually turned himself in to police.

Santa Cruz PD arrested both men for robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime and assault with a deadly weapon.
