California headed toward Daylight Saving Time year-round
The initial push was to keep Standard Time year-round, but the bill has undergone some changes as they now push for daylight saving time all year round.
As it stands, states can either be on Standard Time all year long, or turn the clocks back in the fall and forward in the spring. In the process, we lose that precious hour of sleep as temperatures warm and dark days during winter months. The people I spoke to say they’re in favor of having one set time, and the extra hour of light that comes with year round daylight saving would be an added bonus.
“Something consistent would be really good. I wouldn’t mind that at all,” said Natalie Medina. “I like it that it’s lighter at night so me and the wife can take a walk at night. So I would like the change and I am for the change,” said Peter Tori. “I absolutely hate the time change. We have to scramble to get up early and then we are always late getting out the door. A more consistent time would be better,” said Lilian Salinas. If it passes, the future ballot measure would ask voters to repeal the state’s Daylight Saving Time Act, in order to clear room for lawmakers to pass a law creating year-round daylight saving time.
