Capitola Beach Rescue

A dramatic beach rescue attracted a crowd of onlookers at Capitola Beach Saturday afternoon.

With the tide coming in, a crew with Central Fire used an aerial ladder to lift a woman injured on the rocks to Cliff Drive, a short distance from Capitola Wharf.

Paramedics attended to the woman on the rocks. A firefighter, attached with ropes, descended about 50 feet along with a rescue basket to bring the woman up to the busy road, where she was put into an ambulance. A firefighter on the scene said it was unknown exactly how the woman was hurt.

Central Fire frequently uses the aerial ladder in beach rescues, according to the firefighter.

Eastbound traffic was temporarily blocked on Cliff Drive.
