Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park will completely reopen Saturday

After 11 months, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park will completely reopen to the public starting July 1st. Visitors will be able to use the campground and all four day-use lots. The park was closed following the Soberanes Fire and the nearly 95 inches of rain that followed. California State Parks superintendent John De Luca has been working for the parks system for the past 14 years and said he’s never seen anything to this extent.

“Using heavy equipment to dig out the campsite that were covered in mud and debris, as well as re-contour the campsites because of the new amount of dirt that’s in these sites. We’ve come a long way since the winter and we’re getting the parks back open and we’re looking forward to people coming out to big sur,” said Big Sur Sector Superintendent John De Luca.

A new shuttle service will also be available to visitors starting Saturday. The whole idea is to get movement North and South of the collapsed Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge. A van will pick up visitors from the Andrew Molera State Park parking lot and shuttle them to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. People can then take a half mile hike to the southern side of the bridge.
