Car thieves stop for gas, get busted in Scotts Valley

Two suspected car thieves’ luck ran out at a Scotts Valley gas station.

The two bandits had been driving around Santa Cruz County in a stolen green Nissan Altima Thursday and decided they needed to stop for gas.

An alert citizen recognized the car and called Scotts Valley Police.

The two suspects were arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. During a search of the car, officers found a disassembled Ruger SR1911 handgun. The car thieves said the gun wasn’t theirs and had “no idea” how it got into the car.
