Salinas DREAMer won’t face deportation
A Salinas DREAMer detained by ICE in March won’t be facing deportation.
According to immigration attorney Blanca Zarazua, a Senior Attorney at the US Department of Homeland Security filed a Motion to Dismiss Removal Proceedings on May 9th. A judge then granted the motion on May 30th.
Juan Manuel Martinez is now no longer required to appear at the immigration court to defend himself against possible deportation.
Martinez was arrested by Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies on March 2nd for trespassing at the jail, but he was detained by ICE due to a procedural error.
Martinez was released from ICE custody on May 4, 2017.
“Now he doesn’t have that cloud over his head in terms of what’s going to happen in October,” Martinez’s attorney Blanca Zarazua says.
Martinez was born in Guanajuato, Mexico and was brought to the US when he six-years-old. He is a beneficiary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program also known as DACA.
