WWII aircrafts soar into the Monterey Peninsula
Just in time for veteran’s week, extremely rare World War II aircrafts are making their way to the Monterey Regional Airport. The Wings of Freedom Tour consists of the WWII vintage Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, Consolidated B-24 Liberator, B-25 Mitchell and North American P-51 Mustang.
The unique planes will be on display from May 17 to May 19. The tour group travels the nation as a flying tribute to the flight crews, ground crews who maintained them, the workers who built them and the soldiers who helped protect them.
Flight coordinators expect pilots to touch ground around 1:45 p.m. Visitors will be given the chance to explore the aircrafts inside and out. The event is put on by the Collings Foundation. Tickets can be purchased at the Collings Foundation Website.
The Wings of Freedom Tour will be on display at the Monterey Jet Center, at 300 Skypark Drive.
The tour celebrates it’s 28th year and visits more than 100 cities in over 35 states annually. Local veterans and their families are encouraged to visit and share their experiences and stories with the public.
