Salinas man sentenced in DUI crash that injured seven

A 29-year-old Salinas man has been sentenced to four years in prison for driving under the influence and causing great bodily injury, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s office.

Felix Perez Gutierrez’ two children were in his van when he crossed over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic on the busy San Miguel Canyon Road in North Monterey County.

The van collided with two other vehicles, both with child passengers. A total of seven people were injured in the crash, including the driver’s 5-year-old child.

Gutierrez had a blood alcohol concentration of .13/.12 at the time of the crash. He will be eligible for parole after serving 85 percent of his 4-year, 4-month sentence.
