Fire and emergency services measure passes in Greenfield

Voters approved Measure C in Greenfield during a Special Parcel Tax Election, to help pay for fire and emergency services, according to certified results from the Monterey County Elections Office.

The election was held on May 2 and Measure C passed with 68 percent of voters saying yes.

The measure allows the city to tax residents up to $200 per single family home, $150 per multi-family unit and $85-$200 plus $.07 per building square foot for non-residential parcels annually.

It also puts an annual increase option equal to the inflation index, which would be established by City Council.

The new tax is slated to provide the city with up to $770,000 and will be adopted without an expiration.

Measure C required a 2/3 vote to pass and will go into effect immediately, after the results are reviewed by City Council, according to the voter description.
