Felon arrested for possession of firearm and high capacity magazine

Watsonville police officers arrested a felon in possession of a firearm and a high capacity magazine during an area check near a Motel 6 on Monday night.

During the check someone alerted officers to a fight happening inside one of the motel’s rooms.

Officer located the room and found three people inside.

Derick Jerome Pounds, 25, of Merced was one of them. Pounds was found to be on probation and had a warrant out for his arrest.

Police searched the room and found a .45 caliber pistol with a high capacity magazine concealed inside of a stuffed animal, along with 10 oz. of marijuana.

Pounds was charged with possession of a firearm and taken into custody.
