484 Cannery Row has quite the storied history
A highly prized, oceanfront property along Monterey’s Cannery Row has quiet the storied history.
Although the City of Monterey had approved plans for a project including condos, parking, a community park and retail space, the property still lies empty in one of the most desirable tourist destinations on the Central Coast.
San Xavier Fish Reduction plant was once a thriving operation at the location. It closed together with other Cannery Row businesses when the sardine industry folded in the early 1970’s. At one time, the area housed 20 different canneries and 484 Cannery Row hosted three different canneries on its site, alone.
