Police encourage people to celebrate safely on Cinco de Mayo
Salinas police officers will be on the lookout for drunk and drug-impaired drivers this Cinco de Mayo.
There will be DUI patrols on Friday, May 5th and Saturday, May 6th from 6pm until 3am.
According to law enforcement, Cinco de Mayo has become a deadly holiday with 40 people killed in crashes across the nation during the holiday period in 2015.
Police are urging people to find a sober ride home before the celebrations begin.
Drivers can also download the Designated Driver VIP, or “DDVIP” free mobile app for Android or iPhone. It helps find nearby bars and restaurants that feature free incentives for a designated driver.
