Rabbits in dire surroundings rescued from a Salinas home

A total of 41 rabbits found in “inhumane” conditions were discovered Friday at a house on Augusta Drive, in Salinas by the SPCA for Monterey County.

Although live rabbits were taken to the SPCA facility for medical evaluation,16 dead rabbits were also found in the home.

The owners could face criminal charges of permitting animals to go without veterinary care, animal cruelty, deprivation of food, water and shelter and abandonment.

To report animal cruelty and neglect, call 831-373-2631 or visit SPCAmc.org/report-cruelty. All calls are confidential.
