Rental prices going up in Salinas according to new report

After flat or declining prices for much of 2016, this year is a different story with rental prices nationally increasing each month. According to a report released Monday from Apartmentlist.com, Salinas rental rates are up 2.6 percent over the last year alone. Gail Valdez of Bay Property Management oversees properties from Salinas all the way down to King City, she believes that number could be even higher. However there are ways to spend less.

“Rents are lower down in the valley. The further you get away from the bay the less things are. So you can really find a good value in places like Soledad and King City,” said Bay Property Management Owner Gail Valdez.

Valdez says it’s the lack of rental availabilities that are driving the prices up. According to Rent Jungle as of March the average price in Salinas for a two bedroom apartment averaged was $1728. In Santa Cruz that same apartment would cost you $2,562 and in Monterey $1,863.
