Steel fabrication underway for new Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge
Progress is being made as crews work to rebuild Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge in Big Sur.
This week, the Monterey County Office of Emergency Services shared new pictures from Caltrans showing some of the steel being fabricated for portions of the new bridge at factories in the U.S.
The bridge was completely torn down on March 23 after winter storms caused damage to the pilings under the road portion.
Crews started demolition on the bridge on March 13 using a 6,000 pound wrecking ball, which failed to take the bridge down after several tries. More equipment was brought in later to take the bridge down in three portions.
