Gang member arrested in King City shooting Wednesday night
A King City gang member has been arrested after a shooting in the 200 block of Oxford Way Wednesday evening, police said.
Officers said the shooting happened at about 5:25 p.m. as the victim was walking with a friend and his friend’s six-year-old sister.
The victim told police a silver Pontiac pulled up beside them and asked him if he “banged.” Police said the victim, his friend and the six-year-old ran from the suspect, as shots were fired from the car. Four shots were fired, all of them missing the victim and his friends but did hit a residence, police said.
Suspect Jorge Cortes, 18, of King City, was arrested after police said they were able to identify him based on several witness statements.
Cortes was arrested just after midnight Thursday and booked into the Monterey County Jail.
