CHP Santa Cruz chase a llama on the lam

CHP are used to taking suspects into custody, but police were subjected to a different kind of chase when officers tried to corral a runaway llama.

According to the CHP, the fugitive llama was seen wandering along Hwy 9 and Old County Road, Saturday, April 22, weaving in and out of traffic lanes.

The Llama eluded capture, and Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter was called to step in, but before they arrived, a passing ‘rodeo cowboy’ with the necessary lassoing skills was able to subdue the llama on the scene.

Officials said that while they were waiting for animal control response a friendly gentleman offered his assistance to lasso the llama, in an effort to prevent it from running back into the lanes.

The CHP said it was fortuitous the gentleman was a “rodeo cowboy” and had the skills needed to seize the animal. Once animal control arrived, they made arrangements to secure the llama.
