Pacific Grove Tide Pool Trails project will preserve the coast

The Great Tide Pools Project, costing the city of Pacific Grove $145,000, aims to restore and revamp the coastal access trail. The project would improve the coastal trail through the tide pools that are along Oceanview Boulevard near Point Pinos Lighthouse.

“To define the trail a little bit more with decomposed granite,” said Pacific Grove Mayor Bill Kamp. “Also a little bit of a boardwalk section with a little gazebo lookout.”

Ultimately, the city hopes to connect the dots from Lover’s Point to Asilomar State Beach, filling the gap in the four mile coastal stretch. But Kampe adds the project aims to help preserve the coastline as well, where the city has replanted the area with native plants.

“But the other part is also to try and keep people trampling on the native habitat that’s now been restored,” said Kampe.

But beyond the trail, it’s a way for the city to continue to give back to the community.

“It’s such a beautiful little town and wonderful community,” said Sue Fettchenhauer. “So I am so pleased to hear that they have a plan to revitalize this area.”
