Green cards getting a makeover
Newly designed green cards, officially called “Permanent Resident Cards,” are coming out on May 1st.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said the new and improved cards will be more tamper-resistant and will include enhanced graphics and other features that will help combat fraud. It’s all part of the Next Generation Secure Identification Project.
The new green card will still be green, but will also feature images of the U.S. flag and the Statue of Liberty.
Redesigned Employment Authorization Documents will also be released on May 1st.
Both cards will display the card holder’s picture on both sides.
Not everyone will get the newly designed cards. USCIS says it will continue to use existing card stock until its current supplies run out.
“Both the existing and the new Green Cards and EADs will remain valid until the expiration date shown on the card,” according to USCIS in a press release issued Wednesday.
