MOCO Sheriffs closer to finding bomb-threat suspects
Monterey County investigators think they know who’s responsible for bomb threats at several schools on Tuesday. Students and staff at two schools in Castroville and one in Salinas were put on lock down and a fourth was also disrupted. All schools were deemed safe later in the day.
Though no one has been arrested quite yet, investigators with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office say they’re pretty sure they know who is responsible for threats at three schools.
Tuesday morning, North Monterey County High School and Middle School in Castroville and Gavilan View Middle School in Salinas were put on lockdown when bomb threats were called into each of them. Some answers on Wednesday from the sheriff’s office saying they believe two adults, a man and a woman, may be responsible for those threats. Both are from Salinas, in their late 20’s or early 30’s. As nerve-wracking as a bomb threat is, parents and faculty shouldn’t have to worry about this one anymore.
“This turned out to be very early on yesterday to be not a very credible threat. There’s no evidence to suggest there actually were bombs. Our response yesterday was precautionary to make sure that there was nothing so with nothing further to suggest that there was a direct threat to any school in Monterey County, we haven’t put any resources at one particular school because we think something’s going to happen there,” said Monterey County Sheriff’s Department, Commander John Thornburg.
The sheriff’s office is handling the two cases in Castroville and the middle school in Salinas. Virginia Rocca Barton Elementary in Salinas also received a threat yesterday morning. But that case is being handled by Salinas police and we’re waiting for more information on that one.
While officials says they’re confident they know who these suspects are, they may still need the public’s help in finding them. If you have any information on any of these threats, you are urged to call the Monterey County Sheriff’s dDepartment or Salinas PD.
