UPDATE: Experienced diver pulled from water at Carmel River State Beach
UPDATE 3/9/2017 3:30 p.m.:
Rescue swimmers and lifeguards pulled an unresponsive diver from Carmel River State Beach on Thursday morning.
According to information from Cal Fire, crews from Cypress Fire Protection District, Carmel Highlands Fire Protection District, Pebble Beach Community Services District Fire Department, Carmel Fire Department, California State Parks and an ambulance responded to a call about a diver in distress near the mouth of the river around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
The unresponsive diver was in the water with two dive partners. Two rescue swimmers and two lifeguards got into the water and swam out to them. An inflatable boat was launched and helped bring the diver to the shore.
Authorities say the diver, a 61 year old from Sanger, has experience diving. He was taken to the hospital where it’s unknown what his condition is.
First responders on the peninsula have an Ocean Rescue Program, which they say have responded to three incidents already this year.
