Texas man convicted in Salinas deadly hit-and-run
A Texas man has been convicted of felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony hit and run causing death.
According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, on July 5, 2015, Anthony Bouchereau was driving with his girlfriend, Yesenia Romero on North Madeira Avenue in Salinas. Prosecutors said he was going twice the speed limit when he hit a van making a left turn through an intersection. The passenger side door was ripped off and Romero was thrown from the car.
After the crash, Bouchereau got out of the car, looked at Romero’s injuries, took her phone and fled. Her family tried getting her cell phone back and planned a “sting operation,” where they met him at a truck stop and held him until authorities could arrive.
Bouchereau could face 12 years in state prison when he is sentenced on April 7.
