Local restaurants look forward to dry weather
“When the rain comes out, no one wants to come down when it’s rainy,” said Johnathon Valles with Scales Seafood & Steaks.
Winter months are typically slower for local businesses on the Monterey Peninsula, and recent storms certainly didn’t help.
“Especially when it’s down pouring, you know, that does kind of hurt, especially in the mornings,” said Derrick Davis with The Wharf Market Place.
But Davis said business picks up when there’s a break during the storms.
“With us having hot sandwiches and soups, we’ve had like a pretty good, steady flow going,” Davis said.
Still, many are counting down the days to summer.
“We are definitely ready because summer time it’s our biggest income comes in,” Valles said.
It’s not summer yet, but with a mostly nice day ahead, locals already have plans for the weekend.
“We will be paddling on the bay tomorrow morning, and then Sunday morning also,” said Monterey resident Lisa Phares.
And restaurants are ready to impress.
“Creme brulees, cheese cake with fresh blueberries,” Valles said.
“We are going to be doing our little BBQ tri tip sandwiches and fish tacos, we’ll be doing like mimosas,” Davis said.
