Hollister teen accused of armed robbery

A 16-year-old from Hollister has been arrested and accused of robbing a local market in January while armed with a handgun.

The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office said the teen went into Hillcrest Market in the 1300 block of Hillcrest Rd. January 22 at about 5:20 p.m. and demanded cash, before running off.

Investigators said the victim, a man in his 20’s, was not hurt and shots were not fired. During the weeks after the crime, deputies said they followed up on leads and were able to identify the suspect.

Deputies said a search warrant was done Monday, March 6 at the suspect’s home on El Toro Ct. During their search of the home, investigators said they found evidence tying the teen to the crime scene.

The suspect was taken to San Benito County Juvenile Hall and has been charged with armed robbery.
