Resupply airlift into Big Sur

A resupply airlift has been scheduled in Big Sur on Friday, according to the Monterey County Office of Emergency Services.

Officials said a helicopter will ferry eight pallets of food, 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel, more than 400 pounds of pet food/supplies and mail for those in isolated portions of Big Sur.

The staging area has been set near the Big Sur Multi-Agency Facility at Highway 1 and Pfeiffer State Park, 25 miles south of Carmel, officials said.

Airlift efforts will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will continue throughout the day, as it will require nearly a dozen trips to make the full delivery, according to officials.

Officials said the public will not be allowed near any of the landing zones during the operations because of safety concerns.
