Santa Cruz County sees uptick in ‘shoulder drivers,’ CHP adds enforcement

California Highway Patrol officers in Santa Cruz County say they’re seeing an uptick in the number of drivers who are illegally using the shoulder to get around traffic.

On Tuesday, one officer who was off duty, said she saw 10 people use the shoulder to get around her.

Because of the noticeable increase, CHP is adding extra enforcement on local highways, looking for drivers using the shoulder.

KION’s Paul Dudley will have more on this story Wednesday night.
