Santa Cruz city officials alert community of potential flooding

Santa Cruz city officials are alerting the community about potential flooding.

With a Flash Flood Watch in effect now through Friday morning, all residents in low-lying areas are asked to be prepared for changing conditions that could result in localized flooding, according to city officials.

City officials said they are closely monitoring the storm but advise all residents to stay alert and watch for updates on the city’s website and Facebook page. Residents who are registered for alerts will be issued notifications.

Community members in Beach Flats, the Tannery, Paradise Park, near the San Lorenzo River Levee and in other flood-prone areas are advised to move all people, pets and cars to higher ground before potential flooding occurs.

City officials said all community members need to stay away from the San Lorenzo River Levee, ocean cliffs and other treacherous area.

Information on free sandbags and a detailed storm preparation brochure can be downloaded in English and Spanish from the city’s website.
