Two Salinas student-athletes receive scholarships to universities
Two Salinas Union High School District student athletes have been signed by universities in California to play in their athletic programs.
Everett Alvarez High School Senior Ricardo Soza has signed and received a full scholarship to play soccer with California State University, Bakersfield. At Everett Alvarez, he has been All-League MBL Gabilan Division for the past two seasons. He was also on the team from Everett Alvarez that was runner up in the CCS Finals last year. In addition, he played on the Santa Clara Spring Club Soccer team during the off season. He is a first generation in his family to attend college.
North Salinas High School Senior Fabian Hunkin has signed and received a full scholarship to play football with the University of California, Davis. At North Salinas, he played one year Frosh and three years as a Varsity Starter as a defensive tackle. As a junior and senior he was recognized as the MBL Gabilan Division Defensive Player of the Year and All-County for the Salinas Californian and Monterey Herald Newspapers. He currently has a 3.2 GPA and wants to major in Business. He is a first generation in his family to attend a university.
