Congressman Jimmy Panetta vows to fight for immigration reform
Congressman Jimmy Panetta says immigration reform is a top priority for him as he continues to represent the Central Coast on Capitol Hill.
On Tuesday, Panetta told KION he is doing what he can to push back against President Trump’s recent executive orders.
Panetta said he is hoping lawmakers can come together to get something done and stand up for the values of this country, a nation of immigrants.
“What the president needs to realize is that the world looks to the United States for enlightened and bold leadership and when there are decisions like we have seen, it shakes people’s confidence in our country. Fortunately, we are here to continue to fight for our constitution, to fight for the cornerstones of this democracy and bear the burden for people who are willing to come here and share in that responsibility to serve other people,” said Congressman Panetta.
Panetta said they are working to fight against Trump’s executive orders and fight for undocumented immigrants. There will be a meeting with LULAC in San Benito County on Saturday. They are also sending letters to General Kelly.
