Driver, passenger arrested after pursuit in Monterey County

UPDATE 1/30/17 12:17 p.m.: The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said a second suspect is in custody after a pursuit with deputies Saturday night starting in Castroville and ending in Salinas.Deputies said Tiven Garcia-Lopez was identified as the passenger that ran from the pursuit.

Garcia-Lopez was found Sunday night and booked into the Monterey County Jail.PREVIOUS STORY: Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 17-year-old driver who led them on a car chase from Castroville to Salinas late Saturday night. A second person, a passenger, got away and was still at large Monday morning.

The chase started when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign.

Deputies said during the chase, someone threw a gun out the passenger side window on Garner Road near Dallas Road in Salinas.

The driver was arrested and taken to juvenile hall. According to deputies, the driver had Xanax without a prescription.

A passenger got away and was last seen in the area of Dallas Street and New Deal Avenue in Salinas.
