Man arrested on suspicion of setting Marina house fire
UPDATE 1/27/2017 10:48 AM: A Marina man was arrested on arson charges Thursday evening, after allegedly setting fire to an abandoned home at the former Fort Ord.
Marina police and fire units responded to calls of a fire at an abandoned military housing unit near Imjin Parkway and California Avenue in Marina.
When they arrived, a duplex in the 800 block of Hayes Circle was fully engulfed with heavy smoke and flames.
A Marina police officer stopped two people – and adult and a juvenile – who were walking away from the area. The officer said they were short of breath and sweating.
During questioning, Kevin Anthony Hall, 23, (pictured at the right) admitted his involvement and was arrested on arson charges. The juvenile was detained and later released when police determined he wasn’t directly involved in setting the fire.
Fire crews from Marina, Presidio of Monterey, Seaside, and North Monterey County put out the fire around 8:15 p.m..
ORIGINAL STORY: The Marina Police Department says they have a man in custody who is suspected of setting a Marina house on fire Thursday.
It happened around 5:00 p.m. in the 800 block of Hayes Circle.
Police say they found a house fully engulfed in flames. No one was inside.
While firefighters were putting out the fire, Marina police officers found the suspect. They are investigating to see if any more suspects are involved.
