Carmel placed among “happiest” coastal towns

Citing “spectacular scenery that has drawn artists, writers, and romantics for generations,” Coastal Living has named Carmel-by-the-Sea one of the country’s happiest seaside towns.

The lifestyle magazine announced its 2017 Top Ten Happiest Seaside Towns in America list on Friday.

Carmel-by-the-Sea placed eighth on the list. Editors said the city showed a “quiet calm” about celebrity residents like Clint Eastwood, and praised its “unforgettable architecture, rich food and drink scene, and excellent shopping.”

Topping the list was Grand Haven, Michigan. It is the first Great Lakes town to make the list.
