Hollister resident helps police catch home burglary suspects

Two people accused of breaking into a home in Hollister were quickly caught thanks to an alert resident nearby.

According to police, 19-year-old Christian Leonor-Zambrano and a 16-year-old boy broke a window and entered a home on the 500 block of South Street around 9:30 a.m. on January 18 th .

Someone inside the house hid inside a bedroom and called police. When police officers arrived the two suspects took off running. Officers chased after the suspects and had help from a family member who stopped the two from jumping a back fence. The family member pushed the suspects back over the fence and into the hands of officers.

Police said the suspects had burglary tools and were wearing gloves. Police also later learned the two had been seen knocking on the front door earlier that day.

Hollister Police are warning residents to be cautious about strangers knocking on your door. Police said it is a common tactic for burglars to knock on the front door to check if someone is home.
