Highway 17 rock slide removal planned for Saturday

If you plan on driving Highway 17 from Santa Cruz into the South Bay on Saturday, heads up.

Caltrans will close the northbound No. 2 lane at Vinehill Road from 7am until 4pm on January 21st for some emergency work.

Crews will remove rock and debris that’s accumulated behind the new rock fence that was recently installed, according to Caltrans.

Caltrans may also use a traffic switch, allowing two-way traffic on the southbound lanes of the heavily traveled mountain roadway.

Drivers can expect delays of up to 30 minutes.
