Wednesday: Limited access for local traffic through Fernwood Highway 1 closure

Local and emergency traffic can get through a section of Highway 1 that’s been closed south of Big Sur, Caltrans announced Wednesday.

Starting at 10 a.m. and continuing every 30 minutes thereafter, local traffic will be allowed through the Fernwood closure area (PM 47.03).

Caltrans is planning for school buses do their usual routes, without forcing parents to meet their students on the north side of the closure.

Local residents now have access to and from Ragged Pt. to Pitkins (PM 21.3).

There is still the residual slide at Mud Creek (PM 8.8) but local residents will be allowed around it. Paul’s Slide (PM 21.6) is still active and closed. Slide clearing is still being done at Fernwood (PM 47.03).

Highway 1 remains closed to the public from Ragged Pt. (SLO PM 72.87) to Fernwood (MON PM 47.03).
