Strikers gather outside UC Santa Cruz
UPDATE 1/10/17 2:00 PM: The University of California Santa Cruz reports that demonstrators have left both the main and west entrances to the school and traffic is moving in both locations.
At 1:45 p.m., the university announced that Metro service had resumed in the area.
Striking members of the Teamsters Union are gathering near entrances to UC Santa Cruz, and police advise motorists to avoid the area today.
Similar one-day strike activities are taking place at UC campuses and medical centers throughout the state.
The University and Teamsters Local 2010 have been unable to reach agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement.
In a post on the union’s website, the union vowed to, “withhold our labor for the day, we show the University our power and our value to this institution…”
At UC Santa Cruz, campus police expected major traffic delays at the west entrance to the campus and re-routed outbound vehicles on Heller Drive between Rachel Carson College and Oakes Road.
