“Eat Fresh Robber” sentenced in Monterey County
The man who was dubbed the “Eat Fresh Robber” during a string of food and dessert shop robberies is headed to prison.
According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s office, Bobby Knight, 61, of Salinas was recently sentenced to 14 years in prison. Knight entered no contest pleas on November 15, 2016 to each of the six robberies he was charged with committing in Monterey County.
Knight committed a series of robberies over a two-month period starting in April 2015. His targets included Baskin Robins, Kara’s Cupcakes, Room for Dessert, See’s Candies and Subway.
Knight was arrested after robbing a Mattress Nation store in Sand City, where he left his cellphone behind after lying on a showroom mattress.
Initially, Knight was charged with armed robbery, but those enhancements were dropped when the weapon was determined to be a replica.
Knight will have to serve at least 85 percent of his 14 year sentence, as robbery is considered a violent felony in California. Knight faces similar charges in Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties.
