Shots fired during Salinas store robbery, one person hurt
UPDATE 1/4/17 10:45 AM: One person was injured when a store clerk and robbery suspect exchanged gunfire Tuesday night in Salinas.
Police say the suspect, described as a Hispanic male with a blue-colored bandana over his face, entered Quality Liquors on Williams Road with a handgun and took an unknown amount of money.
A store clerk with a personal handgun followed the suspect onto East Market Street, where the two exchanged gunfire. Police say a shot fired by the suspect struck a 31-year-old man who was watching television inside a mobile home in the 200 block of Williams Road. He was struck in the left shoulder and transported by family to Natividad Medical Center for a non-life threatening wound.
The suspect was last seen running northbound on Kenneth Avenue. It is unknown if the suspect was struck by gunfire.

After the clerk handed it over, the suspect left the store and the clerk followed. The suspect fired several rounds at the clerk as he ran westbound on East Market Street.
The clerk then fired several rounds at the suspect from his personal gun. It’s unknown if the suspect was hit, but he was last seen running northbound on Kenneth.
One of the last two rounds that the suspect fired penetrated the exterior wall of a mobile home. A 31-year-old man, who was watching television, was struck in the left shoulder by the bullet.
He was taken by his family to Natividad Medical Center for a non-life threatening wound.
PREVIOUS STORY: One person was injured during an attempted armed robbery at Quality Liquors Tuesday night, according to the Salinas Police Department.
The incident was reported just after 7:30 p.m. on Williams Road. Police said gunshots were exchanged between the suspect and the store clerk. As a result one person at a nearby mobile home was struck by a bullet. Police said the victim was shot in the shoulder but is recovering at a local hospital.
The suspect got away and was last seen running on East Market Street. Police said the store clerk is cooperating with police.
